Visir, the Iceland fishing company, which exclusively operates long-line vessels, and runs its own state-of-the-art processing facilities, received the Annual Innovation through Knowledge Award 2018, from the Icelandic Association of Economists and Business Graduates.
The jury substantively states, among other things, that Visir has reached remarkable achievements in its operations by increasing its productivity and efficiency through the implementation and development of solutions based in information technology. Utilizing such innovations, it has optimized the operation and management of its fishing vessel fleet, as well as increased the yield of better-paid products. This technology opens the possibility to complete the production process directly in consumer packaging, cutting the cost of intermediate packaging, and represents a major step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the fisheries industry.
Visir was one of the first companies to take advantage of the Hafsyn solution and its precursor. Since 2004, Visir has been recording information about the fishing grounds, catches and bait use of all their vessels, and since 2007, data from land processing, such as size grades, have been integrated with the catch data. All this data represents enormously valuable information on fishing and fishing stocks around Iceland, and has been used successfully to enhance fishing and processing efficiency.
We at Trackwell congratulate the employees of Visir. We thank them for their cooperation in recent years, and look forward to a continued partnership in the future.
